In response to the recent earthquake and tsunami in the Tohoku region, Japan Coast to Coast is helping to organize a drive to send much-needed bicycles and supplies to those in need. The bicycle is the perfect mode of transportation for many of the victims because of its convenience and the almost total unavailability of fuel in the region. We are currently arranging a drop off location in Nagoya and transportation of donated bicycles by truck to Tohoku. We are looking for the following:
Bicycles: Cross bikes, mama-chari, folding bikes and mountain bikes. Sorry, no road bikes. Please make sure the bikes are in good condition and, if possible, the brakes and tires are new.
Supplies: Tires, inner tubes, bike grease, tools, puncture repair kits, etc
Bike mechanics: We’re also looking for good-hearted individuals who are experienced in fixing and maintaining bikes and would like to spend some time in the Tohoku area assisting people with their bicycle needs.
If you wish to donate or assist us, please email us.
Thank you.

To facilitate this bike collection process, we have set up a “pledge” form on the Supporting Japan website. You can let us know what kind of bike(s) you’re donating, where you’re located and we will contact people once we have the collection system organized.
