They have been stored outside for over a decade now but look as good as new. My First Century The weather was good today, with rain forecast for much of the next week. It had to be today. So I set off at 8am, a bit later than planned, for Asuke. The idea was to go a bit beyond Asuke to the 50km mark and then, after a bit of a [...] This – hopefully just the first of many – Japan Coast to Coast expedition is about three middle-aged guys on bikes taking on the Japan Alps, and raising money for a great cause along the way. But even before we set out we’ve had an amazing amount of support and encouragement from a [...] Today I rode into downtown Nagoya to check out the Circles store. It was recommended by Tony, who was there this afternoon with Lowell. Unfortunately I set off late and missed them. But I did find the store okay (it’s close to Higashi Betsuin station). The staff were very helpful and friendly, in fact they [...] Our first proper look at the Southern Japan Alps, still clearly snow-capped in May. Southern Japan Alps Share on Facebook On May 8, I cycled over to Lowell’s for 6am and myself, Lowell and Tony hopped into the car and headed for Hamamatsu City, where the Tenryu River enters the Pacific. That’s the spot where we will ceremonially dip our back wheels into one ocean before setting off for the one on the other side of Japan. I also picked up my new Shimano shoes, and had a bit of trouble getting used to the cleats. The staff guy assured me that I’d probably fall off once before I got the hang of them.
